Raising on Wefunder

The Groundbreaking ELF 3.0. The 1,800 MPGe Pod vehicle Replacing Short Car Trips.

Organic Transit is raising its next round on Wefunder. Here’s what’s bringing early supporters back to the story.

    As Seen In
Rob Cotter built the world’s first commercially available solar vehicle in the U.S., delivered 850 of them, and came back in 2023 to build the ELF 3.0 with the latest design, manufacturing, and technology advancements.

      THE FOUNDER

      MEET ROB COTTER

“The waitlist never went away. We could never build them as fast as people wanted them – and that’s what we’re funding for.”

Rob began his career maintaining Porsche and BMW race cars before shifting focus to human-powered and solar vehicles. He served as VP of the International Human Powered Vehicle Association, directed the first U.S. solar car race in 1988, and worked with GE and DuPont to advance lightweight composite vehicle design. After consulting on NYC’s bike share program, he founded Organic Transit to fill the gap between bicycles and cars.

      FAQs

      FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

      Isn't this just a fancy e-bike?
The ELF is federally classified as a bicycle, which means no license, registration, or insurance is required. But the vehicle itself is a different category entirely. It has an enclosed body, a recumbent seat, three-wheel stability, cargo space for a week of groceries, whether protection, and solar charging built into the roof. It sits where no other commercially available vehicle does: between an e-bike and a car, with the operating cost of a bicycle and the utility of a small car for short trips.
What has actually been built and shipped?
850 ELFs were manufactured in North Carolina and delivered to customers in all 50 states and 15 countries. Owners have logged over 10 million miles in real-world conditions. There have been zero serious injuries across 25+ documented accidents, including truck collisions, and zero frame failures. The warranty rate has held under 3%.
      What does the investment fund?
This Regulation CF raise supports completing manufacturing-ready prototypes, tooling, and initial production capacity. Full details on use of funds and funding milestones are available on the Wefunder campaign page at wefunder.com/organictransit.
What is the target price for the ELF 3.0?
The estimated base price is $7,500. That is the target established for the production model. It is not final until the vehicle reaches full manufacturing-ready status.
Is there a market for this? EV's are everywhere.
EVs address highway and long-distance driving. Fifty percent of all car trips in the U.S. are under three miles. Full-size EVs are engineered and priced for a use case that doesn’t match most daily driving. The ELF is designed for short trips, local commutes, and errands, at a fraction of the acquisition and operating cost. No license or insurance required means the addressable market includes people who cannot or do not drive conventional vehicles.
